Honor-A-Veteran invite graphicDutchess County Executive Sue Serino and the Dutchess County Office of Veterans Affairs invite residents to attend the first-ever ‘Honor-A-Veteran’ Ceremony, recognizing the late Andrew Doro, a proud United States Army veteran and beloved member of the Millbrook community.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 9 AM at the Village of Millbrook Hall and is a part of Dutchess County’s recently launched ‘Honor-A-Veteran’ program – a monthly tribute to local veterans who have passed away, having served our nation with distinction.

Born in the Bronx, New York in 1945, Andrew Doro was a decorated U.S. Army veteran, dedicated educator and successful entrepreneur. A Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient, Mr. Doro served courageously during the Vietnam War and later channeled his passion into supporting fellow veterans in the field of special education.

At the ceremony, Mr. Doro’s family will receive a U.S. flag and proclamation from County Executive Serino, a Challenge Coin from the Dutchess County Honor-a-Veteran Committee, a quilt from Mental Health America of Dutchess County Veterans Programs’ Quilts2Quilts, and a shadow box of memorabilia by the County’s Office of Veterans Affairs. The flag was flown in Dutchess County for 30 days in Mr. Doro’s honor.

The Honor-A-Veteran ceremonies will be held monthly from April through November. To learn more, or to nominate a veteran for a future ceremony, visit dutchessny.gov/honoraveteran, or contact the Dutchess County Office of Veterans Affairs at 845-486-2060.
