I want to have an event in the village, now what?

Any person who wants to conduct a public gathering or assemblage, parade or motorcade shall apply to the Mayor for a permit at least 30 days in advance of the date of the proposed public gathering or assemblage, parade or motorcade.

How do I obtain a copy of my marriage license?

The village has marriage license records prior to 1905.

For marriages after 1905 please contact the Town of Washington Town Hall, 10 Reservoir Drive, Millbrook, NY 845-677-3419.

Marriage licenses are normally filed with the municipality in which you lived when you got married.

How do I apply for a handicap parking permit?

You need to have your physician fill out NYS DMV form MV-664.1 You can download an application or visit a NYS DMV office. Once the form is completed, bring it to the Village Hall, located at 35 Merrit Avenue, along with the applicants driver’s license.

If you reside at The Fountains at Millbrook, you need to bring it to the Union Vale Town Hall, located at 249 Duncan Rd, Lagrangeville.

If you are a Town of Washington resident please submit the form at the Town Hall located at 10 Reservoir Drive, Millbrook, NY

How do I apply for a building permit?

Can I rent the gym at the Village Hall?

Yes! The gym at the Village hall is now available to rent. Book your next birthday party, class reunion, corporate event or sporting event (it’s a great place for pickleball)!

Highway FAQ's

When is the village snow ordinance?

December 1 – March 31

PARKING IS PROHIBITED on all Village streets from 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM starting December 1st thru March 31st. Obstruction of snow removal and street cleaning is prohibited. Violators will be ticketed.

What do I do with my leaves or brush?

Daily Brush Pick-Up: APRIL 1 – MAY 31
Daily Leaf Pick-Up: OCTOBER 1 – NOVEMBER 30

If you have brush or leaves outside the above dates, you may compost yard waste or bring it to the Town of Washington Transfer Station for disposal. Transfer station passes may be purchased at the Town of Washington Town Hall located at 10 Reservoir Drive.

How do I dispose of my garbage and recycling?

The Village of Millbrook does not offer garbage & recycling services.

You may contact Welsh Sanitation at 845-877-9354 or welshsanitation.com for information about their services.

You can also use the Town of Washington Transfer Station located at 711 Route 343, Millbrook, NY 12545.

Dump passes can be purchased at the Town of Washington Town Hall located at 10 Reservoir Dr.

How do I dispose of my Christmas tree?

January 1 – Jan 31

Residents may place their live trees curbside for pick-up. Please do not place trees in the road. This program is for LIVE trees only. No artificial trees will be picked up.

My water bill is really high this month, what should I do?

An unusually high water bill is most often caused by a leak or change in water use. Some common causes of high water bills include: A leaking toilet, or a toilet that continues to run after being flushed, most common. A dripping faucet; a faucet drip can waste 20 gallons or more of water a day.

Village Tax FAQ's

When are village taxes due?

Village of Millbrook taxes will be mailed out by June 1st and are due without penalty by June 30th. Payments received or postmarked after 6/30 will be be considered late and will be charged interest. (see schedule below)

The tax bill covers the period of June 1st – May 31st.

Tax Payment Schedule:

June 1 – July 1: No interest
July 2 – July 31: 5% Interest
August 1 – August 31: 6% Interest
September 1 – September 30: 7% interest
October 1 – October 31: 8% interest

Unpaid taxes are turned over to the Dutchess County Commissioner of Finance on November 1st.

The Board of Assessment granted a deduction in my assessment, now what?

The new assessed value should be first applied on the school tax bill. If the new assessment hasn’t been applied to the bill, please contact the Assessor’s Office (located at the Town of Washington Town Hall) at 845-677-8321. You will be required to complete an App for Corrected Tax Roll.

I paid off my mortgage and I no longer have a tax escrow account, what do I do?

Print and fill out the Bank Code Removal Form and contact the Town of Washington Assessor’s Office at (845) 677-3419 option 2, 1. The assessor’s office is located at the Town of Washington Town Hall, 10 Reservoir Drive.

I did not receive a tax bill, or I received it late, do I still have to pay a penalty?

Yes, the failure to mail a statement or the failure of the property owner to receive a statement will not affect the validity of the taxes or interest prescribed by law (New York State Real Property Tax Law 922). In addition, neither the tax Collector nor any other official has legal authority to waive statutory penalty charges. These are fixed by the Real Property Tax Law. If they are waived, the collecting officer will be personally responsible. As all records are audited by State examiners, there is absolutely no discretion in this matter. The Constitution and the law of the State mandate this procedure.

How do I have a copy of my tax bill sent to another party?

If you are a property owner 65 years or older or have a disability you may complete the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Form RP-923 to have a copy of your bill or notice of unpaid taxes sent to a third party. Request for a duplicate tax bill.

How do I change or remove my name on assessment records?

Fill out Dutchess County Office of Real Property Tax Services Request for Owner Name Change or Removal on Assessment Records Form and RETURN TO: Dutchess County Office of Real Property Tax, 22 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

How do I change my mailing address on my tax bill?

To change your mailing address on your tax bill please contact the Town of Washington at 845-677-3419 or fill out their change of address form.

Do I have to pay my taxes in person?

No. Payments may be mailed to:

*** A US Postal Service postmark is used to determine the date the payment was made. We recommend that if you are waiting to the last day to pay your taxes, that you see the postal clerk affix the postmark. A postage machine, such as Pitney Bowes, does not count as a US Postal Service postmark. For your convenience, we have a locked mailbox to the left of the door at the Village Hall that we check every weekday. You can leave you payment in there during non-business hours. ***

Can I pay my taxes in installments?

No. The village does not accept partial payments. The bill must be paid in one full payment.

Can I pay my tax bill with a credit card?

No. Payments can be paid by check or cash only.
